This has a handy zipper case, with little storage boxes inside for the tips and nips. This is extremely helpful with staying organized and having tips that are easy to see in the little cases.

This has so many goodies included: lots of awesome tips, branding irons, pencils, sponge and holder, stencils, key chains and little wood squares and safety gloves. This is plenty to get someone excited for wood burning. There are so many cool tips and little brands. Super cool.

The only issues I have is with the burner itself. On the case it says solder iron, and for that, this could be fine as solder uses a lower temp. I don’t know, as I don’t solder. I have owned several wood burners though.

The actual wood burner in this kit, is very light. It is easy to hold. The on button is kind of where I hold it, and I keep turning it off. My nibs get loose very easily which means you have to turn off the pen and wait for it to cool off before tightening unless you use pliers to retighten. This happens, but it happens a lot with this burner. It’s a little on the flimsy side. The heat adjuster is a little round dial which for some reason, while using I change my temp. It’s just the design and the controls.

The nibs are easy to replace and the info included on the purchase page is full of useful information since no instructions are printed inside the case, so there is no manual. But, the pictures and instructions are good online.

I love the case and all the goodies inside, but darn, the actual burner could use an upgrade. Overall, for the price, this is a good deal and would make a super starter set to see if you really like wood burning. You can always purchase a stouter pen later if you find you like it. This starter set goes above and beyond with the supplies.

See more Outside of a very fast quarter of seventh grade wood shop, I’d never done much with wood other than paint it and other crafty things. When I saw this kit billed as a beginning wood burning kit I thought I would give it a go as it seemed like something that would help me with some projects I have wanted to tackle but did not have the tools for. This arrived emblazoned with the company name and “soldering iron” which was not what I thought I had ordered! At first I thought I’d been sent the wrong kit, but when I opened it everything that was described in the kit was there. The problem is that there are ZERO instructions with this kit for use on wood burning. It has an instruction sheet, just one, telling you about soldering (not to use the iron higher than needed for the purpose, other quick soldering tips, etc). I do not know at what setting it will work for wood and the soldering instructions were so specific about temperature that it had me a bit worried. One of the projects I wanted to tackle was gift tags for my family’s eco friendly holidays and birthdays (I’ve sewn fabric bags and now was going to make wooden name tags to attach to the bag, see photo, and my review of the tags for more information). I took a photo of my first stab at wood burning, I think I need a little more help with temperature selection. I will say the iron heats up fast and seems to also cool down pretty quickly too. I was able to surmise one of the parts that came in the kit is a little stand to place the iron on as it heats up and cools down or you are not actively using it. The iron has a little silicone bit to hold on to so you don’t get too close to the business end and burn yourself. This kit DEFINITELY needs instructions, and sadly this seems to be a running deficiency in all of these kits I’ve tried so far. I have no idea what any of these pieces in this kit do, so I’ll be doing more trail and error, hopefully I’ll have more successes than failures. This iron does come with a small dial that you select the temperature with, I picked one in the middle. If you have any vision issues at all, get out your magnifying glass to read it though as it is very small. I am hoping to find some other resources for how to use all the bits and bobs this came with because I do think this kit came with a lot of items I think could be very useful and great to use. Without any instructions however, it’s going to be an uphill battle to figure this all out! The iron works quite well, especially the temperature adjustment, and there are so many tips that I''ll have at least 6 months of practice getting good with them before I even consider needing more! I love that there are tips included for soldering, wood burning, and embossing things like leather as well as some carving tips; it''s like getting equipment for multiple potential new hobbies all at once, which is great for a crafter on a budget. The stencils are helpful for people who don''t draw, though not so much for me since my skills have jumped there in the last several months with consistent practice.

I''m particularly pleased with the balance on the tool; it sits in my hand like a slightly tail-heavy fat pen and can be gripped nearly naturally, so it doesn''t mess with my ability to draw a straight, even line or even do stipple shading. That''s letting me get results like I''ve been drawing with a burner for a couple of years already, despite being a relative beginner. The kit comes with tracing stencils, patterns, dozens of tips, colored pencils and pieces of wood to start out on. It''s a small, lightweight woodburner and soldering iron all-in-one. The cord is actually heavier than the device so be careful when setting it down on a work surface while plugged in. I felt the metal stand was a bit lackluster and was more comfortable setting it on a piece of scrap metal. The burner handle had a good feel and only took a few minutes to get hot enough to burn the wood.

The temperature dial broke off after the second use and there''s no way to glue it back on so that''s a bummer. Another downside to this kit is that I felt the instructions for actually woodburning were a bit empty. There weren''t any tips, tricks or techniques described in the instructions manual. I did notice that, as it heats, the tips loosen up and can fall off. The two parts that screw on and off get really loose while in use. Both I and my husband tried this out. Watch the temp. Your hand may accidentally turn it up. I felt it got too hot to hold at times, even while watching the temp. While my husband said I''m crazy and he left it at the hottest temp. Lol. The rubber cover gets so warm it starts moving down the plastic handle of the tool, regardless of temp. The gloves it comes with are not good, either. Honestly they get too warm in my opinion. I do suggest using some gloves that good hold up against the heat. I will update if my review changes at all. I love the alphabet letters and extra bits, the two wood key chain pieces will be a great project for the grand-kids. I am not very proficient at free hand writing so along with the alphabet bits, I especially like the various stencils that come with it. Fully adjustable heat range from: 200°C (450°F degrees Fahrenheit) to 392°C = (842 degrees F). Off/on switch. Good price for those who want to start out in wood burning. It has everything needed to get a good start at crafting woodburned gifts or things you''d like to create and keep for yourself. Nice variety of stencils and also included color pencils. The only thing they didn''t include was a varnish or shellac-type sealant for finished colored-in projects.

Looks like all my friends & family are going to get woodburned gifts this Christmas!
