Over the years, Kaito has proudly supplied millions of radios to the State Department, the United States Army, the United Nations and other government agencies and NGOs for their humanitarian relief efforts. It's hard to believe, but often times a radio is the only way to connect with the outside world in some parts of the globe, and radio broadcasting has become an important and effective tool helping the US and its allies build strong relationship with the locals and educate them to stand up against conflicts and extremism, which in return makes our troops and diplomats safer and more successful in their missions.
*No Endorsement of Kaito by the US Department of Defense, Department of State, United Nations of their personnel is intended or implied.
What is RDS?
Radio Data System, or RDS, is a communications protocol standard for embedding amounts of digital information in conventional FM radio broadcasts. RDS standardizes several types of information transmitted, including time, station identification & program information.
What is NOAA Alert?
Connected to the Emergency Alert System (EAS) through NWR (National Weather Radio) network provided by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association), this feature will automatically activate the radio to inform you of any hazardous weather conditions or warnings including natural, environmental and public safety while the radio is set at the “Alert” mode.

It took me a while to write this review, because I had the unit stored for emergency use for 2 years. I finally decided to use the unit while we were swimming, the solar panels do not seem to work. The battery held a charge for a couple of weeks of recharges and then suddenly stopped holding a full charge. The volume/loudness of the unit is low, even when turned all the way up. The crank does not seem to work, or add any charge to the battery. This unit may be worth around $20, but for $80 I paid for it, I consider charity to the clever.

If you''re looking for a am/fm radio that runs on AA batteries, not bad. If you want the other features this product is useless. The original battery gives about 30 minutes of airtime with a full charge, less if you get a "full" charge using the solar feature. Assuming the battery was bad I went ahead and bought an identical battery. This new battery gave around 2 hours of airtime. Yet the battery drains even if the radio is off and the only way to stop this is to remove the batteries. Which means you have to re-set the clock each time, along with any other features you may have saved. Lastly, I bought this for camping use and as ruggedness goes; it is about as sturdy as your run of the mill 99 cent store toys. Worst purchase I''ve ever made on Amazon.

Very disappointed with this product. The FM and Weather function good enough but have never heard anything on SW and very little on AM even outdoors with a long wire attached to the build in antenna. I know that we are in a sunspot cycle low but still I would expect to hear something! I am keeping it because I do need a weather alert radio and the built in lights are helpful. The battery did charge at the beginning but no more.

I finally found a need for my Kaito Voyager Pro radio...lost power for two days, but pulled out my radio so I could crank charge phone and get some information over the radio waves. I had always kept the internal battery charged whenever a storm was in the area. It died within 5 minutes. No Biggie, switched over to the AA batteries that had not been used...they were drained for some reason. I put new AA batteries in and had radio for a couple hours, turned it off, and went to turn it back on a few hours later, batteries were drained even though power selector was on internal battery/adaptor. Basically this thing just constantly drains your AA batteries and the internal battery is garbage. The Internal battery began smoking after I tried charging it again. I have reached out to customer service regarding the issues and am awaiting a response. I will update this review based on how they handle this, but for now, I would avoid this device. I had a friend experience the same thing with the same model. He warned me not to buy it but I figured it was just a fluke for him....but nope. Almost set my house on fire with what was supposed to be a handy tool in an emergency.

I set the time and the next day it was around 4 hours off. Also, the alarm function did not work. In general it was cheaply made and felt like a $5 radio, not an $80 radio. I am baffled on why this product has high ratings, perhaps Kaito is seeding the reviews.

Received today. Two words that are NOT an accurate description of this product are Rugged and Durable. I''m sure many people who are gentle with their things will say it''s great. But i can see and feel the weakness of the crank arm. Weak design for sure. I''m not reckless with things but i know I will break mine. And the solar panel doesn''t want to stay up. The slightest touch sends it sliding backwards. Another touch and it slips farther down. When the solar panel is stowed away and I hold the unit horizontal the solar panel slips out of it''s stowage area and hangs partially down. Haven''t even tried the unit yet, maybe I will return it
