Like many other devices, all Govee had to do was allow you to enter pairing mode (by pressing the power button for 5 seconds or so like other brands) and simply add the device to a common app, like Smart Life. Instead, there is no support online for how to enter pairing mode and all the directions say that came in the box is to download their app to connect to them. Before I bought these plugs, I had bought from a different brand altogether. When those came in, I realized they only worked on WiFi and specifically on the 2.4Ghz band. I work in IT, therefore my household network is carefully curated and in my case I have disabled the 2.4Ghz network for all but a few very specific use cases. For example, my smart thermostat uses it, but the web access is possible from anywhere. Whereas with the plugs I''d bought, the phone app would only work if your phone was on the 2.4Ghz band as well. This would not fly, I shouldn''t have to switch my phone to that band or use that band regularly if I didn''t want to. So, I returned them. Govee on the other hand works via Bluetooth as well. There are of course detractors to setting up this way, the most glaring meaning I''d need to be in the same room as the plug, but I''m willing to endure that over changing my network from precisely how I prefer it.
