Enabling the WiFi is a bit of a task.

First, you need the app. It’s best to just scan the QR code in the instructions to download it for your phone OS of choice. We have all iOS and it was an easy download.

Then you need to register the app. At this point, you don’t need to give the app any permissions, though it doesn’t seem to ask again for them, so if you don’t do it now, you’ll have to do it manually later.

By default, Smart Life will try to detect these via an “EZ Mode”. Don’t do it that way. It’ll drive you nuts and you’ll think they’re broken. You want to follow the AP Mode instructions. Here’s how that works:

1) Under “Electrician”, click on Socket (WiFi)
2) enter your 2.4GHz (B/G/N) wireless password. This is so it can sent it to the device.
3) on the next screen, you should see EZ Mode in the top right of the screen. Tap it and change to AP Mode.
4) at this point, the paper instructions say to unplug/re-plug the device. When you do, hold the power for 7 seconds until the LED on the outlet is SLOW blinking (~2sec blink). If it fast blinking, turn it off then back on and then hold the power for 7 seconds.
5) once it’s slow blinking, click on next until you can check “ Confirm indicator slowly blink “.
6) you will need to switch your WiFi to the device now in your phones WiFi settings. It’ll be named SmartLife-xxxx.
7) once you connect to the device, switch back to the Smart Life app and proceed.

It’ll take another 5-10 seconds to finish setting up the device.

Smart Life is a fairly common app among Chinese smart device manufacturers. It allows them to use a pre-existing platform and not have to develop their own. I actually have a smart fan coming in that uses this app as well.

Now, I set mine up on Alexa already, and it’s fairly simple. You need to add the “Smart Life” skill. DO NOT use the “smartlife” skill, it is different and won’t work. Make sure there’s a space between Smart and Life. You will link it using the same details you set when registering.

All in all, these are basic smart devices. Adding them to Alexa (or Google Home which is supported) adds more functionality. If you’re an advanced IoT user, you can use IFTTT as well ( but with their new pricing setup, might want to just stick to Alexa or Google)

These would get 5 stars if the app setup was easier. I have a ton of things like this and know what works best, but not everyone is tech savvy. If you don’t mind paying more, you can find easier platforms to use. But if you don’t mind a little extra work, these are perfect.

Our will be used for Halloween and Christmas. We are using this to control an outdoor fountain we were tired of walking outside each morning to plug in or night to unplug, especially when you hear it running at 1am. I digress again.
Now I am able to program it to turn off so if we forget about it, it shuts down at 10pm.
I also like how the app is mainstream, and integrates with "mostly" all the integration tools out there....Google Home, IFTTT, etc....only one missing (which to me is most important) is Apple Homekit.
One design flaw though IMO - The plug would have been better if it were flat since this is an outdoor rated device. UPDATE: After a week of it working, the app has disconnected from Google and I can no longer control with google. The plug also disconnects from the app in both android and IOS so that I have to keep the app open for 10 seconds and refresh it to get the plug to be seen again.

Instructions are laughably poor. I have a house full of smart home devices and this one was the 2nd hardest to setup. It could have been so much easier.

First, you have to download an app (smart life) that is good but yet another app to install. The app is wonky during setup and the instructions don''t help much. It took me about 20 attempts to get it working but I did finally get it working. It involved several resets and attempts.

Follow the instructions as best you can and then troubleshoot your way through it with multiple resets. Once it works, it is good. Setup with Google & Alexa is cumbersome but slightly better documented.
